The 2009 Nonprofit Video Awards

I have a confession to make: I'm rooting for some organization, any organization, to unseat the Humane Society of the United States as the winner of this year's Nonprofit Video Awards.

It's not that last year's winning video, "Overlooked: The Lives of Animals Raised for Food", was bad. Quite the contrary: it was very well made, with important, disturbing, and timely information. No, the problem was, the video played at the 2008 NTC -- replete with images of animal abuse, including a long segment on the inhumane caging of chickens -- projected on a big screen, just as conference attendees tucked into their lunch -- of chicken breast.

Talk about your veritable explosion of Twitter chatter.

The 3rd Annual DoGooderTV Nonprofit Video Awards, which we're co-sponsoring with See3 Communications and the Nonprofit Times, are now open. If you made a video in 2008, we want to see it! (Unless, of course, it's unsettling, and we're eating luch. Send us the unsettling ones in the evening, please.)

Last year, more than 160 entries came in from over 100 organizations. Let's see if we can't beat that this year. You have until March 26 to submit your entries; there's no cost, and you can enter as many as you like.

For all the details -- and to watch last year's winning video -- head on over to DoGooderTV.
