Introducing the Missoula 501 Tech Club

You may be familiar with the local groups in the Nonprofit Technology Network, called NTEN 501 Tech Clubs (as in, 501c3). These are informal groups for nonprofit technology professionals who want to share information and resources and connect at the local level.

Our newest 501 Tech Club, organized by Jeanette Russell, is in Missoula, Montana. Jeanette is successfully bringing together nonprofit staff and other cause-minded techies to learn about each other's activities and share tips and best practices for incorporating technology into their work. Nice job, Jeanette!

Jeanette blogs about her local group's activities, and she took this video at their last meeting:

Jeanette's organization, Democracy In Action, has given Missoula quite a boost in supporting this volunteer activity (at the very least by employing her). She's been an enthusiastic energetic presence in Missoula. But Missoula's hot too. We've got the highest non-profit per capita in this city because the people here - they really care. About the environment, about children, about the arts, you name it. And we also have a wonderful tech community that is participating. The talks on newsletter and distribution list maintainence, Grupthink, and online collaborating and planning have been tremendously beneficial and well attended.

As a computer professional since 1984 with a personal interest in improving our communities (though The Stevensville Playhouse and Missoula BarCamp, thank you JNet!

After an arduous move from Washington DC, I finally arrived at my new home in Missoula last night! I'm looking forward to working with Jeanette and the other members of the Missoula nptech community to make this a supportive and vibrant 501 group. See y'all at the next meeting!
