Will Email Ever Die?
It's a question I get asked a lot, especially since the latest e-Benchmarks study shows a drop in open rates. My answer can depend a little on my mood, but I generally think that email is not going to die, just as direct email is not going to die (anytime soon). Never say never, but bet on the fact that both will be around for a good long while.
This raises an interesting point: your job as communicator or fundraiser is getting increasingly difficult.
First, you had to deal with direct mail. Then, you had to figure out email. Now, you're grappling with social media. And the cherry on top? To be most effective, you really need to know how to do all of these things together, in a coordinated and targeted way.
I don't have the answers, but this great post from Beaconfire raises some points to discuss.
How are you dealing with all this new stuff? What's your strategy for learning and implementing new tools?

I don't think email will ever die. The usage may get decreased cos many forms of social media communication is possible now. Also the multimedia communication systems are becoming more and more popular. I myself do video chat with friends. But still email will stay.
We've already seen a push to aggregate content into sites like iGoogle, RSS readers, and widgets. I believe email will continue to exist as a basic form of communication but "how" we access the content of that communication will change and move away from the historic In Box we are all familiar with.
