Learning to Love MySpace?

I'm a total snob when it comes to MySpace. My house is pretty much always spotless, and that's the way I like my interface design, too: clean.

So I get the chills when I check out MySpace. Too cluttered! Nonetheless, it's a tool nonprofits cannot ignore. Folks like IFAW and many others have used MySpace to engage and activate a whole new constituency.

If you're looking to start a MySpace campaign, or if you have one already and want to improve it, check out Heather Mansfield's post on optimizing your MySpace page.

I repeated a quote from Danah Boyd's essay about class wars in MySpace VS Facebook as related to asethetics during the PBS Conference where I was presenting. The quote goes something like ... "Myspace is Los Vegas and Facebook is Ikea" Someone asked a question from the audience -- right at that point and said that he was from the pbs station in Las Vegas!

Anyway, I did a roundup a while back on .orgs on MySpace

I've tried. My house is pretty much always a mess and I can't stand MySpace. The eyes! The eyes! Oh, the humanity!

When I couldn't put it off any longer, I begged our President to set up our MySpace group. It's not generating a lot of momentum yet, partly because I just haven't been able to stay on MySpace long enough to give it the attention it needs.
