Celebrate the Web

Owd_web_button_150 Tomorrow people all around the world will celebrate the internet and its impact on their lives in the first ever global holiday for the web - OneWebDay.

In New York City people will gather to hear internet celebrities like Craig Newmark from Craig's List and Drew Schutte from WIRED speak. Los Angeles, Tokyo, Naples, and other cities are hosting their own in-person events throughout the day. In Canada the Canadian Internet Registration Authority brought attention to the holiday with a cross-country tour interviewing people on how the internet has changed their lives.

But of course a celebration of the web can't just be held offline. In the Philippines one blogger is collecting personal stories on how the internet has changed peoples lives. A group in Savannah, Georgia, is spending the day creating a podcast of local dialects and accents. And Second Life is hosting a virtual event - all are invited to attend and raise their country's flag for a group photo that will be posted on Flickr and CNET.

You can celebrate OneWebDay any way you'd like. The website offers some ideas to get you started and ways to track down events planned in your area and online. And if you have your own idea, go for it! Just make sure to take a few photos, post them on Flickr, and tag them "onewebday" so everyone can see.
