Phil The thing I like most about my job is the people I get to interact with every day. This is a crazy hectic time of year for an organization with just four staff, but I think we manage to pull of a really great event each year because we're surrounded by a really amazing community of people. From big ideas to the small stuff, you folks keep me invigorated and inspired. My latest inspirations? Phil Klein and Laura Quinn. Phil just sent me a list of fantastic Seattle resources, and Laura smartly suggested I get it out of my inbox and online. So, if you're attending the conference, here's some great information about what to do and how to get there. thanks Phil and Laura!

From Phil Klein:

Here are some of my favorite local venues and activities. You can find reviews and details for all of these via google or http://seattle.citysearch.com

Restaurants/Bars (all walking distance from Westin)
- Cyclops - great mixed menu, tasty.
- Flying Fish - upscale style and great seafood.
- Palace Kitchen - bar/restaurant
- Liquid Lounge over at the EMP is fun and of unique design.
- Le Pichet - good french bistro food.
- Alibi Room - mostly a bar with dancing, some food too.
- Triple Door - stylish bar
- Linda's Tavern - Montana style
- Two Bells Tavern - pub
- Jai Thai - thai up on Capitol Hill
- Many bars at http://www.worldsbestbars.com/city/seattle/ are close to the Westin.
There are a few more good places to eat nearby the hotel, many in Belltown, and in near Pike Place Market. More activities etc listed at: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/webtowns/town.asp?WTID=1 . Try a variety of local microbrews.

Outdoor Recreation:
- Rent Kayaks on Lake Union - http://www.nwoc.com/ is way fun for 2-20 folk, nice views, novices welcome, rent boats for $12/hour for single $17/hour for double boat.
- Argosy boat tours from the waterfront can be fun for 1-60 people.
- Skiing / snowboarding/ xcountry is great up at Crystal or Snoqualmie pass, 1-1.5 hrs from downtown.
- Walking - down at Myrtle Edwards park is nice, by the sound, good for a run or bike ride too. Or walk up to Volunteer park on Capitol Hill, as well as around town. The historical underground tour is fun, beginning down at Pioneer Square. Pike Place Market makes a nice walk too.

Getting Around:
- From the Airport -- the 194 and 174 busses will take you to downtown from the airport. It's like $1.50-$2 to ride to downtown. Busses are free to ride in the downtown area, which includes the Westin, Pike Place, Pioneer Square.
- If you want to wander wider, rent a car. Note there's a 20+% tax for car rentals at the airport to help pay for our sports stadiums.

Networking with Nonprofits:
- Find local nonprofits that share your mission at http://www2.ci.seattle.wa.us/CrisisClinic/search.asp#agency . Most local nonprofits are listed there.
